H. Luke Livingston
Owner/Founder/President/”POTUS”
Luke Livingston, 27, grew up in the Lewiston-Auburn, Maine community and decided to return home after attending Clark University in Worcester, MA, where he received a BA in Communications & Culture in 2007. Livingston developed a obsession with craft beer and began brewing his own from his college dormitory. An obsession that led to the successful online beer journal, BlogAboutBeer.com, which he authored for nearly four years. After losing his mother, Barbara, to breast cancer in January 2009, Livingston took the leap of faith to sell BlogAboutBeer.com, leave his day job, and publish a business plan that would later become Baxter Brewing Company. Luke is an excellent juggler, a big baseball fan and plays lots of disc sports. Livingston serves on the Boards of Directors for Portland, Maine-based PROPEL and the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council (LAEGC). He was named one of Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30 Most Influential Entrepreneurs of 2011. His favorite beer styles are porters and stouts. Sorry ladies, he’s married to the Business “Hoperations” Manager, Chelsea.
Jonathan Green
Cellar Person/”Mister Zwickle”
Jon has over twenty years of experience in the food and beverage industry where he’s worked every job from washing pots to owning his own restaurant. He has a serious passion for locally sourced, high-quality craft edibles. His father was a chemistry professor for thirty-five years at the University of Maine; as a result Jon thought he might try his hand at beer chemistry, thinking he might have absorbed something through osmosis. Jon has a seven-year old daughter and an eighteen year old Abyssinian cat named “Dog.” Jon’s favorite beers are IPAs and Oud Bruin.
Ryan Fitch
Lead Canning Operator and Cellar Person/”Dr. Zahm Nagel”
Before Baxter Brewing, self-taught microbrew guru, Ryan, began working for Shipyard with zero industry-experience as a cellarperson and on the kegging line. After three years, he moved on to Sebago Brewing where he worked as a liaison between the pubs and brewery. Ryan has two sons, a lovely wife, and an adopted dog from the Caribbean. He is a major Bruins fan, and has a “Men’s Room Bar” at his home complete with official pints and coasters, two taps, and a collection of more than 500 magnetized bottle caps. His favorite beers are IPA’s (they’re “his jam”).
Chelsea Livingston
Business “Hoperations” Manager
Chelsea found her way to Baxter Brewing Company after working for four years in the human resources and operations of an international student exchange company. While she has traveled and lived abroad multiple times, she is originally from Maine and is happy to work for a start-up company so invested in the state. Chelsea is married to owner Luke Livingston and lives with both him and their ten year old cat, Henry. She volunteers with Portland Adult education and her favorite beers are IPAs and Hefeweizens.
Geoff Newman
Brewer/”The Hopilator 5000″
Geoff is a passionate homebrewer who graduated from the American Brewers Guild in Vermont. He’s married to an amazing and beautiful woman named Mary. Geoff’s interests include, but are not limited to: fine art, world history, music, hiking, snowboarding, BBQing, hockey, soccer, foosball, taking your money at darts, etc. He has an unquenchable thirst for real ales and Munich lagers.
Jason Harris
Part-Time Canning Line Operator/”The OTHER Baxter Babe”/”Violet Beauregard”
Jason had worked a string of odd-jobs before sliding into the position of part-time canning line operator at Baxter Brewing. His former jobs included delivering oxygen to the elderly, working on floors at Bath Iron Works (where his dad worked for thirty years; his grandfather worked for fifty), and telemarketing (which he says, “is always super awesome”). He has two cats named Poncho and Krejci. Jason is a Gemini and enjoys quiet walks on the beach with his part-time canning line operator partner, Kyle. He’s unashamed to admit that his favorite beers are pumpkin ones.
Kyle Seeley
Part-Time Canning Line Operator and Kegger/”High-Tech Hide and Seeker.”
Kyle is a former mason apprentice who started home brewing because he was too broke to actually purchase beer, plus it was something he always had wanted to try. His best brew to date was an amber ale; people loved it so much that he ended up giving away more than he drank himself! Kyle is into geocaching and cooking. He makes bad ass enchiladas (his secret: he cooks the beef for hours until it starts to fall apart) and clam chowder (his secret: none that he’s willing to reveal). His favorite beers, in no particular order, are reds, browns, and stouts.
Chris Cavallari
Retail, Tours & Social Media Coordinator
In 2009, Chris escaped the life of big crowds and smog filled skies in the New York City metro area to the clean air and friendly people of Maine. A television cameraman and editor by trade, Chris has spent 17 years making moving images, many of those years at his own company, Filmosity Productions. Now Chris is the Retail, Tours & Social Media Coordinator at Baxter Brewing, where he gets to combine his love of craft beer with his passion for educating people. A brand new homebrewer, Chris also enjoys hiking, fly fishing, kayaking, camping, and woodworking in his precious little spare time. What time he does have is spent trying to conquer the perfect chili recipe. His favorite beers are stouts and Belgians.
Ben Low
Interim Head Brewer
After many years studying and teaching Latin literature — and about 350 batches of homebrew — Ben decided it was time for a career change. A great opportunity at Gritty McDuff’s thankfully brought him home to Maine after his graduation from the American Brewers Guild. As Interim Head Brewer at Baxter, he’s enjoying working on modern equipment with all the amenities juxtaposed with old mill where his mother and grandfather both once worked. In his spare time, he enjoys watching hockey and baseball, brewing German and Belgian beers, gardening, cooking, and making his own sausage and sauerkraut, all with his wife, Anna. Luckily, he also loves walking and hiking. His favorite beer style, if forced to choose, is German smoked lager.
Rori Crossman
(s)Ales Representative and Brand CANsultant
In September of 2011, Rori left the world of wiping noses, opening lockers, and signing hall passes to become the Brand CANsultant for Baxter Brewing Company; an adventure that she is excited to take on! In her new position, Rori will serve as the brewery’s representative, expanding Baxter’s presence throughout its territory, making sure our accounts are happy, and heading to all the fun after hours events and tastings. At any given time, Rori can be spotted across Maine making sure the cans get around. Catch her at the next promotion! Rori enjoys all the finer beers of the world but has a special place in her heart for the IPA’s, “with all their hoppy goodness”.
